Loctite 2nd Chance House

Recording Sound for Loctite’s 2nd Chance House

Recording the production sound for the Loctite 2nd Chance House show in partnership with Habitat for Humanity was a great project to work on collaborating with the production company Timber & Frame.

Varying Equipment Needs

Since this project had a wide range of on camera talent throughout filming & took place over several months, the gear needs varied quiet a bit from one shoot day to another. For a project like this having enough gear on set to cover different eventualities is critical, anything from a plant mic for a lectern/podium, up to 6 people mic’d at once, plenty of IFBs for the Loctite team to listen in on, or timecode & wireless camera hops to facilitate this show’s shooting workflow.

Camera & Editorial Support

This show consists of a combination of scripted moments, documentary interviews (both sit downs and on the fly), & more reality/verite style moments. Given the fast paced shooting style camera hops (as reference for the editor) and timecode to sync standalone audio recordings to camera media are integral parts of this production’s workflow.

Voiceover Van

Given we were shooting at a house that’s an active construction site but there was still a need to record voiceover on location with Ricky, the shows host, we ended up using my van as a make shift VO studio on location. My van has a bench in the cargo portion, and that’s where all of the show’s voiceover was recorded. The van had a shockingly negligible acoustic impact, and did a great job at keeping the work noise out of our recordings. Using a DPA 4017 for VO meant it matched the production audio’s boom for cutting it against other scenes.
